Program Requirements
Internship Program or Training Program: Which Can I Apply For?
Since 2007, the U.S. government has distinguished between the Internship Program and the Training Program.
You can apply for the Internship Program if:
You are enrolled in a university and wish to do an internship abroad.
You have graduated from a university or study program no more than one year ago.
Maximum duration: 12 months + 30 days grace period.
You can apply for the Training Program if:
- You have a professional or academic qualification of at least one year obtained outside the United States.
- You have five years of work experience outside the United States.
- Maximum duration: 18 months + 30 days grace period.
Requirements for All Participants
The area of the internship or training must be related to your studies, and you must have a sufficient level of English to work.
You need to have sufficient funds to complete the required program.
In some fields, there are unpaid positions. To undertake an unpaid internship, the candidate must demonstrate having at least $900 per month of stay in the U.S.
Available Sectors
- General Business (marketing, sales, international trade, business development, etc.)
- Human Resources
- Computer Engineering
- Graphic Design

Program Duration
The minimum stay is 2 months, but many companies prefer commitments of at least 6 months. Although it is possible to extend a contract up to 12-18 months, this entails additional costs due to the need to process a new DS-2019 form. We recommend defining the duration of the stay in advance.
After completing the internship or training, participants can stay in the U.S. for an additional 30 days to travel or enjoy the country.
Compensation
The compensation will vary depending on the candidate’s experience, profile, and available offers. Contact us to see which programs we can offer for your profile.
The pay range can vary from $300 to $1500 per month. This program ensures a minimum approximate compensation of $500 per month for stays of 6 months or more and $1000 per month for stays of 12 months or more. It is common to find internships with a higher stipend, but this will depend on the sector, application dates, duration, and personal characteristics of each interested person.
Deadlines
The application process is lengthy, so it is recommended to apply at least 3 to 4 months before the start of the program.

Spain Internship assists in obtaining the DS-2019 form and the training plan (DS-7002 form), required for the J1 visa.
